So what’s the big news you ask? We finally found a drummer! After a yearlong quest, the ever-punctual Tim Lykins joins us as we prepare for our Winter adventures…more music (shows below), our first t-shirts, and our first song written together. Tim comes from an eclectic background of rock (opening for Weezer and Blues Traveler) to Broadway shows, playing the kit and percussion. Nick, Matt, and Hammer feel fortunate to be able to welcome him into the band.

Also check us out online: http://facebook.com/bigmosey – having more fans helps us book better shows and get more press. So please ‘Like’ our facebook page, and share it.

Thanks for all the support!

STAMFORD: Nov 26th, Sat: Seaside Tavern
NEW YORK: Dec 1st, Thu: Arlene’s Grocery (w. Reserved for Rondee)

Evan and Matt at Punch in Sjoa, Norway

August saw Big Mosey adventuring to Norway. What a beautiful country! We played in Oslo, the small rafting town of Sjoa, and Trondheim. Besides these excellent nights, we traveled around the country side with friends and new friends. If you are ever in the area, the folks over at the Student Society in Trondheim can celebrate an evening like you wouldn’t believe. [Click here for more photos]

Now we’re back in New York, getting ready for some local shows. The big show is Arlene’s Grocery on Thursday Sept 15th, with the whole schedule being:

Sept 10th, Sat: Branded Saloon in Brooklyn
Sept 15th, Thu: Arlene’s Grocery in Manhattan
Sept 24th, Sat: Local 269 in Manhattan

Lastly, we received a great review recently, real kind words:

“It is quite rare for me to write about an act that is unsigned. If I do, then I feel that it must be an act that I must share with you. This is Big Mosey…Get yourself signed, Big Mosey, because I want more of the same please.” -Joseph McLean, The True Joe 90 [Read the full review here: http://bit.ly/pqtI2T]

Homeward At Daybreak

through many Months of shows, emails, studios, Spontaneous Dance Parties, long drives, and Barefoot Winter Runs, i’ve been looking toward this moment. there is a Record, and it is Big Mosey’s first record. we’re calling it “Homeward At Daybreak” (and you can too).

we were aided by the masterful Jeremy Sklarsky (producer of the Freelance Whales album), as Matt, Tom, Dave, and I sculpted our favorite live tunes into Permanent Fixtures.

You can listen to all four tracks on facebook, and if you love it as much as we hope you will, please become a fan:

“Homeward At Daybreak” will be available for your ipods, cars, Lighthouses, and latenight gatherings by mid-February, and we will be hosting a slew of cd release Parties in New York, Boston, and Stamford (details to be announced soon).

be well and i’ll see you on the Outside.

WITH A SHORT TIME DELAY: i’m traveling by Bus down to DC for this Restoring Sanity/Fear Rally. i’ll be the man in full Hunter S Thompson Garb and Spirit, harassing the normies with Hallucinatory Banter, documenting the folks who are making sure this is the Low Water Mark of the American Dream.

but enough of this Talk – there is urgent news to discuss, the Baobabs name change in fact – no longer must you pretend to remember our hardly pronounceable Designation. now we go by BIG MOSEY – think bearded and barefoot Giants drifting across the open countrysidecal Landscape, planting their mountainous legs just over the Horizon.

this re-Introduction wouldn’t be complete without the fine Tidings of our new drummer, Dave Bucci. just arrived in town from Syracuse, he’s laying down the good grooves and helping us get this band in to full Avalanchemode. we’re all hanging out in a Brooklyn Basement Studio, working on our first record and harvesting the Tunes for our late Autumn public appearances: the NYC Marathon (Bedford/Nassau Corner), NYC’s Arlene’s Grocery (Nov 18th – http://facebook.com/event.php?eid=171794106169997) and Boston’s McGann’s Pub (Dec 10th).

be well and i’ll see you on the Outside.

it’s time for a Proper Introduction: The Baobabs, pronounced (by us) as ‘Bow-Babs’, are a Thoughtcrime that Matt Jacobs and I started to Construct back in March. Besides being a hard to Pronounce band name, Baobabs are a type of African tree with crazily fat Trunks. now that we have Electricity provided by Tom Grise on his Guitar and Chris Markwood on his Drum Kit, i’m excited to let you know that we’ll be Playing many more shows and releasing some new Recordings into the World as well.

what do we sound like you might ask? when pressed we say we’re an odd conglomeration of Tom Waits, the Black Keys, Joe Cocker, and Kings of Leon. now if that description is confusing, you have two Options – you can come to our big New York show this Thursday at Arlene’s Grocery (9:30p), which is also my 27th Birthday’s Eve (just in case you need some more convincing).

the details are all here:
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=109179369138847

or you can hear two recordings that Matt and I made separately before we met: http://thebaobabs.com (check out Rocking Chair for the Full Tilt experience of Matt’s Voice.)

be well and i’ll see you on the Outside.
